Sometimes, a place becomes almost synonymous with the art. Take the northern Mexican desert installation Prada Marfa by Elmgreen & Dragset for example. Dubbed a ‘pop architectural land art project’ by its creators, the faux store built following Prada’s boutiques aesthetic codes and was provocatively conceived to naturally deteriorate since 2005.

The Lightning Field by Walter de Maria is ‘...a sculpture to be walked in as well as viewed...’ per the Dia Art Foundation, the institution which commissioned and maintains the art installation. Located in the high desert of western New Mexico, The Lightning Field offers a poetic experience for its visitors since 1977.
